In the world of kid's party planning, the princess party is often requested by many little girls for their birthday party celebration. Lucky for us, the princess party theme has a lot of creative options and is great fun for adults, too.
So, if you are thinking of planning a princess party, here are a few ideas to help you create the perfect, magical celebration.
Cardboard Halloween Decorations
Royal Invitations
Invitations can be printed or handwritten on parchment paper. Roll each invitation and fastened with a ribbon or an "official" gold seal. Additional invitation ideas include anything with a playful dragon, a royal castle or even a a royal princess crown.
Decorations - Pink and Glittery
The most popular theme color for a princess party is pink. If you are also inviting a few dashing knights to the celebration, you might want to also add either white or black for a bit of a masculine touch.
For a dramatic entrance, create a castle guests must pass through to enter the party. To create the castle, begin with a large card board box (refrigerator or appliance boxes are perfect) and spray paint it gray. Cut turrets on around the top of box, a few arched windows and add a flag. Cut a hole in the cardboard for the door and add a piece of carpet or a rug for the magic path which leads everyone into the birthday party kingdom.
For the birthday girl, create a "princess throne", a chair decorated with flowers, extra balloons, a large bow and any sparkly, princess details you find. Use pink tablecloth, streamers, glittery stars or confetti to decorate the table.
Final touches for the "royal feast" can include plastic goblets or champagne glasses and fancy disposable, silver colored utensils.
Royal Games and Activities
The princess theme is great because there are so many different activities and games which can be easily incorporated into the party. For games, there's pin the wings on the dragon, pin the crown on the princess, pin the sword on the knight or countless other variations of "pin the tail on the donkey" type games.
Craft ideas are a lot of fun because guests not only have lots of fun creating them, but crafts can be also used as party decorations. For example:
Plastic goblets and champagne glass can be decorated with rhinestones, sticker or glitter glue. Glasses become part of the table decorations and can also be a party favor.
Princess Wands and Crown: decorate foam wands or crowns from your local craft supplies stores with beads, rhinestones, glitter glue pens, stickers or self-adhesive felt heart and flowers. If there are knights attending the celebration, offer cardboard shield, sword or a crown to decorate and add a few knightly touches such as animal stickers to use for the family crest.
Another craft idea is to make princess necklaces or bracelets. Use stretchy plastic cord instead of a thin silk cord. Offer several bowls of colorful beads of all shapes and sizes for guests to create their masterpieces. Again, anything glittery or pink are great colors for supplies and the chunkier the beads, the better.
Treasure hunt or scavenger hunts: provide clues to help guest find the princess's missing items hidden throughout the kingdom. For younger children use a simple version of the game, but older children may enjoy a little more challenge. Prizes can be either the hidden item or guest can select from a secret treasure chest of goodies such as extra ornaments for their crown or swords, Mardi Gras beads, sparkly nail polish or other inexpensive goodies.
Princess parties are a wonderful because they allow for a lot of playfulness, imagination, creativity and fun. Decorations need not be expensive or games elaborate because the kids get caught up in the magic and story of the princess party theme. So take lots of photos and enjoy the opportunity to indulge yourself and your guests in an afternoon of pure imagination and fun.
